3 EV cars relased in Q1 2022 and how they compare to the Tesla Model 3

So far this year the top three most sold electric cars 2022 are all Teslas. Let’s look at three new car models released in Q1 of this year and compare them with Tesla’s trusted Model 3.

Kia ev6

This 5-seater sport crossover has a cheaper starting price than the Tesla at $41,000. The ev6 has almost exactly the same EPA-estimated range as the Model 3, 310 miles, but creates over 100 less hp at 167. Its major selling point is the ultra-fast charging capability when using 400-800 v DC Fast chargers. Kia claims that these chargers provide “up to 217 miles of range in only 18 minutes.”

BMW i4

This car is only a little more expensive than the Model 3 but is much more powerful. The BMW starts at $55, 000, only $3, 000 more than the Tesla, but has a whopping 544hp. Not only that, its 370-mile estimated range is 60 more than the Tesla, this makes the i4 a major competitor amongst electric cars 2022.

Lucid Air

The Air is a luxury sedan built by American electric car manufacturer Lucid. It is by far the most expensive model released in Q1 with a starting price of $77, 000, $35, 000 more than the Tesla. For that money, you get far more hp, 480 (going up to 1,100 in pricier models), and a far greater range, up to 406 miles.

What keeps Telsa on top of electric cars 2022?

The Model 3 is not the cheapest or fastest and it does not have the longest range. It does, however, have autopilot and full self-driving capability features. While the BWM and Kia have nothing to rival autopilot, the Lucid Air comes very close with its DreamDrive system which might soon be as good as Tesla technology.
